APPLICANT #1: Haley Macon

Haley Macon is a 22-year-old student from Moncks Corner.

Here is Haley's video application:

Here is Haley's current situation:

My name is Haley! I am 22 years old, my birthday is coming up in March. Where I will be, yes, 23! (Contrary to what some may believe.) I am a full-time student at Trident Technical College. I'm working on my prerequisites for Radiology Technician, however, there is a huuuge waiting list till 2012-ish. In the meantime I am working on my Certified Nurses Aide to go ahead and get myself in the hospital setting.

I would SO LOVE this opportunity for my unique style in vocalizing ideas to be heard, and actually be talking about important issues and helping people! Dream job, INDEED.

Thanks for stopping by and seeing what I am all about! Much appreciated!

Here is Haley's blog post:

My blog post is meant to be about something that matters to me. Something that I have a great care for; is music. All kinds of music; hip hop, pop, classical, country, rap, heavy metal, indy, classic rock, oldies, etc. You name it, I listen to it. I have always loved music, which is why I am also a musician. I began playing the violin in 6th grade. I had moved to Texas and they had an orchestra program as one of the electives you could choose. I lived for it.

What I see alot and is very quite sad actually, is the decline in music programs in schools for children. Orchestra is very scarce indeed, but also some schools are even having to do away with their band programs as well! My sister's school has a band but they can only afford to do it for one semester each year. It truly is sad to hear about, she loves it, as I did, and would much rather play in the band the entire year.

My generation seems to hold a mere mediocre amount of musicians or at least people who learned an instrument in school. What scares even moreso is my sister's generation, finding a child who can play a musical instrument is rare! Makes you wonder what its going to be like for the next generation of children. Will they even offer such programs at all in schools?

They have a program dedicated to this very subject. I find it absolutely brilliant. They are a non-profit organization whose main focus is to bring back music education in American Public Schools and also educate the public on the importance of the children learning music. It has been said to help sharpen their learning skills, helping in them in the future.

Thanks for taking a gander and my blog post not just as an entry but something that I hope will change by the time I have children. Thanks again!

Haley

I also agree with the importance of music being available to learn in school. I started playing the clarinet when I was in 7th grade and later was in the marching band in high school. I absolutely loved playing instruments and could teach myself to play pretty much any instrument as long as I had the note chart and the instrument. I have been out of school for many years but I hope that my children will have the opportunity to be in music program when they start school.
