"Hey! My name is Julie Goodman and I am a recent graduate of the College of Charleston. I currently work at the Center for the Documentary at CofC. I have a passion for journalism and want to break into the news field. I am excited about applying for Young & Free SC! My experience in production and journalism make me a great candidate for this position. I love to meet new people and learn new things! I try and make sure to always have fun and never take life too seriously. I am dedicated and determined and I would love the opportunity to be the voice of Young & Free SC!"

"The Big Switch

I was truly looking forward to February 17, 2009 for one reason. The Big Switch to Digital TV! However, this switch never happened. The deadline for digital TV has been pushed back and pushed back and this time I thought it was real. But Congress pushed it back again! The new deadline: June 12th.

Back in the day the FCC planned to start the switch to DTV in May 1999 and hoped to complete the switch in 2003. Initially all analog signals were to be cut of at the end of May 2006. However, that did not happen. The date was moved to February 2009 and now to June 2009. So we will cross our fingers that this long time journey will soon come to an end. The main reason behind my annoyance with this issue is another four months of those horrible commercials. More banners interrupting programing and more DTV shout outs during the weather on the 6:00 news. We get it.

With the price of HDTVs dwindling and the government sponsered DTV converter box coupons, the switch for consumers should not be difficult. It is the broadcast stations that are lagging behind. It is a costly transition. Luckily, some have already completed the switch and hopefully others will get there by June 12, 2009.
