Tanner Brooks is a 20-year-old from Goose Creek.

Here is Tanner's video application:

Here is Tanner's current situation:

My name is Tanner Brooks and I was born and raised here in charleston. Ever since the beginning of my existence I have been searching for my calling. I started at a young age as a thinker and an artist, creating things to share my thoughts and ideas with the people and culture around me in order to make an impact in the world.

I now work part time as a graphic designer at Faith Assembly of God in Summerville and I do freelance design and illustration on the side. Still, I'm always looking for bigger and better ways to improve my abilities and Share my ideas.

This opportunity has arisen and fits just the bill. I have been presented a challenge and I accept.

Here is Tanner's blog post:

cre·a·tive (krē-ā'tĭv)
adj.

1. Having the ability or power to create

What is creativity? It's writing a poem or a song, painting a picture, sculpting a masterpiece. Among all of this It's the creation of the wheel, the invention of the gun, the baking of a cake. Often times when we hear about creative people we think of Artists being people that sing, sculpt and paint. Often times we forget about all of the other creative people that invent things we have taken for granted or even the people that do everyday things such as baking a cake.

Creativity is more than just creating art, and as much as this sounds like a given, many people don't really think about it. This leads to a segregation of people; we are either creative or simply not. This is a very unhealthy thing to assume, because it produces a culture where people either do creative things or uncreative things. Soon enough jobs are distinguished by either being a boring corporate job or an exciting but not profitable creative type of job. This division of jobs has already taken place today.

Kids across the world are told that they can't be what they want because just simply enjoying your job is not enough. You have to make a lot of money also, which in order to do that you have to have the jobs you don't want. There is nothing further from the truth. This then strips all of these kids of their creativity because their once imaginative mind now is constrained by the ideal job of modern society, which is making forty thousand a year in a cubicle.

This brings me to my point. Creativity is not just for the weird "artsy" type. Everyone possesses and uses creativity very well. Your mom uses her creativity to come up with meals every night, or your dad uses his creativity to build that shelf for the hall way. You teachers may even use their creativity to think up unspeakable punishments for you. All of these things require creativity because creativity is as simple as having the ability or power to create.

Wether you sit in an office all day or spend it standing up styling hair, remember to use your creativity to the best of your ability because creative ideas are what change the world and that is a right reserved for no one.
