Darryl LaPlante is a 22-year-old recent graduate from Goose Creek.

Here is Darryl's video application:

Here is Darryl's current situation:

My name is Darryl LaPlante from Goose Creek. I am 22 years old and just this past December I graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in theater performance and a minor in business.

I believe this job would be the perfect opportunity to do a lot of the things I already love to do. I love to meet new people, help people, and most of all I try to be creative in some way every single day.

If you think I am the best candidate for the job look me up on Twitter or keep your eyes open for my Facebook group.

Here is Darryl's blog post:

Just before I graduated from Winthrop University I was walking to my fraternity house to pick up my car and I passed an older gentleman pulling a mattress out of a house that had just burned down. He was not having an easy time with this mattress and it would have undoubtedly taken him a very long time to get to wherever he was going alone. Thus, I asked the poor man if he needed some help. He kindly accepted. He said he was taking it just down the road, where he had just moved, so we put it on top of his car and slowly I rode with him down the street. His clothing smelled of smoke and he looked like he had not slept in weeks.

On the way to our destination he shared with me that he had just finished moving into the house when it was burned down, reportedly by arsonists. When we arrived to the apartment we got out of the car and I told him to just worry about the door and that I would get the mattress.  When I entered the apartment nothing but the utmost feeling of sadness came across me. I looked into his living room and he had nothing left but a pile of unfolded clothing and the very mattress I was carrying. Everything else was burned in the fire. After I put the mattress down in his room I asked if there was anything else at all that he needed.  As he grabbed my hand to shake it he said that I was more than helpful enough and that he was very grateful. He looked me in the eye and said, “Thank you, son”. This all occurred on December 20th. Not a week before Christmas this man lost almost everything he owned and he wanted nothing more from me than help with his mattress.

I didn’t share this story to try to make anyone feel sad. I shared this story because this is the day I came to the stark realization that I should NEVER take anything in my life for granted because in a heartbeat I could lose it all. Love your family, treat your friends well, always have respect for yourself and your belongings. Feel blessed with what you have because there are always people in a tougher situation in life…and when you do meet those people…help them if you can.
