Here is Darrell's video application:
Here is Darrell's current situation:
"I just graduated with a B.A in Youth Ministry from Charleston Southern University, but I'm not done with my education yet. I plan on getting a Masters Degree in Religious Education. Currently I am working full time as a maintenance technician which has been a great experience, but I am also volunteering my time as the Youth Director at the N. Charleston DreamCenter.
Even with all that on my plate I have still found time to build relationships with friends and family, and of course with my wife, Ashley and our rescued dog, Truman. I am extremely excited about the opportunity to couple something I am passionate about, video production and speaking, with one of the most significant aspects of most people's lives, finances. Thanks for the opportunity Young & Free."

"A Reflection on Our Current State of Affairs
Everyday, more news is reported about the latest company needing bailout money or the skyrocketing unemployment rate. Our financial state is a sensitive, and often depressing subject to discuss. I don’t need to tell you how many people have been affected by the recent downturn of events.
Growing up my family went through their own recession period. My parents got divorced when I was eight and our family income decreased by more than half. No more cable TV or eating out or big Christmas gifts. It was a humbling time for my mom, two older brothers and myself. I relate the changes our family had to make to the ones that people all over the country are currently making.
The thing about my family’s financial struggle is that out of that experience we all learned a thing or two that has prepared us for the roads we now travel. One brother heightened his entrepreneurial spirit, the other became very protective and strategic about holding onto the money he had, and I have learned peace and contentment.
Dave Ramsey, financial author and radio host, started Financial Peace University in 1994 in an effort to help people better manage their finances. His key purpose is for people to gain peace over their current situation and better prepare themselves for their future. It is a concept that I believe we are all in need of.
President Obama’s campaign ran with the same voice of hope in these present times. As evidence of his election win, that’s something a lot of people are looking for. Financial hope and peace stem not only from a handle on outside circumstances, but even more importantly from an inner stability. It involves an unshakeable faith that things will turn around and get better.
While gaining a minor in history, I have studied the Great Depression as well as other economic downturns around the world. Those that survive, or rather thrive during those times are people that have previous experience in financial hardships. What have you learned from past financial hardships that have benefited you during these difficult times? What are you learning now that will benefit you in the future?
