LBS Band #23: Hollow Reed

Band name:
Hollow Reed
Band line-up:
Gwyn Waller (guitar and vocals)
Laura Thurston (guitar and vocals)
David Keller (mandolin)
Band bio:
It started as just two girls playing acoustic guitars around the campfires in NY. Growing up in a small town we discovered we both shared a deep seeded musical interest and a passion to perform. With loving support from our family and friends we developed the strength and ability to set forth towards our dreams. Without their encouragement and confidence we may never have embarked on this journey.
TO THE CRADLE OF THE LOW COUNTRY: We arrived in Charleston, South Carolina in August 2004. We had come on a whim to discover ourselves through music and new experience. Taking to the streets of downtown to share our songs, we found the city of Charleston embraced us whole heartedly. We really started coming into our own here branching out and experimenting with many types of instruments while making lifelong friends. The low country had become out heart and home.
ADVENTURES: There was still a lot of exploring to do and our hearts were being pulled in different directions. Laura hit the road to conquer the west coast just as Gwyn took flight to absorb South America. We both had many grand adventures along the way, Laura introducing herself to many forms of American counter-culture, and Gwyn attending to observe protests in Santiago. But soul sisters can only be apart so long...
REUNION: Reunited in Charleston years later, after viewing the world on our own personal voyages, we found we had both grown individually and were ready to grow together again as 'Hollow Reed.' Since then we have continued to expand our music, adding David Keller on mandolin, while developing a strong following from Folly Beach to Awendaw. Infusing original soulful folk tunes, with a dash of Latin spice and a bluegrass kick, we've flourished amongst our Charleston family.
EPILOGUE: Now as we step into the future, we still remain true to our hometown roots pickin' by firelight. Attending numerous music festivals and carving out our own scene, we've stretched our fan base throughout the east coast and as far west as the Mississippi River. We intend to continue on our musical adventure with space in our hearts always ready to be filled, and the wind at out backs, like a Hollow Reed.
