Josh Sutherland put in a great year as the 2009 Young & Free SC Spokesperson

THE SEARCH

Summerville, South Carolina's Josh Sutherland was the 11th applicant in the search for the 2009 Young & Free South Carolina Spokesperson. His video launched right in and showcased his informational style of videomaking, and his mad guitar skills. It was clear that Josh had the ability to represent the 25 and under crowd well!

After making the top three with Kelly Gaskins and Kyle Whitcroft, Josh went all out creating a Facebook group, a podcast, some cool extra videos, and several blog posts.

When all was said and done, Josh ran away with the competition, garnering more than half of the votes! With the assistance of his sister Suzy, the crew surprised Josh at his house and offered him the position of the 2009 Young & Free South Carolina Spokesperson!

JOSH'S ADVENTURE

Josh's year began with a bang, as he formally closed his bank account and joined South Carolina Federal Credit Union.

Josh's role as the Y&F Spokesperson consisted of writing five blog posts including one video blog every week. Over the course of the next year, Josh wrote over 150 blog posts and created 27 videos bringing the message of money management to the world.

SOCIALIZING – ONLINE AND IN PERSON

Josh worked hard to create and maintain a dedicated Young & Free SC community – he had over 3,000 followers on Twitter, over 2,000 Facebook friends and attended over 40 events. The Young & Free SC Twitter is now the most followed credit union twitter account in the world.

Josh also canvassed South Carolina to find out what people were doing for their New Year's resolutions.

SIGNATURE EVENT

Young & Free SC also played host to the Last Band Standing competition, where 24 bands tossed their hats into the ring for a chance to play at ShineFest 2009 and win $1,000! Judges for the event included a member of Hootie and the Blowfish, an Amercian Idol contestant and other South Carolina music luminaries. In addition to his regular videos, Josh created video segments for the Living Young & Free Show, our bimonthly web series.
