Scott Woods, president of South Carolina Federal Credit Union, hopes to grab the attention (and the accounts) of more 18-to-25 year olds by leveraging their affinity for technology.
The region's biggest credit union is seeking to recruit a young hip, spokesman to help it capture a share of the so-called Gen Y market.
South Carolina Federal Credit Union is kicking off a search today to find someone who personifies and can connect with the state's 18-to-25 set via a new Web site that will offer financial tips and money-management strategies relevant to the demographic.
"There has been a lot of talk about shifting the focus to the younger generation in the credit union world," the North Charleston-based financial institution says on the newly launched YoungFreeSC.com. "... Today, we are making a real effort to reinvent ourselves and to connect with an entirely new generation of potential members."
The one-year Young & Free gig pays $29,000 and comes with all the tools of the trade, including a wireless phone, high-definition video camera and an Internet-equipped Apple MacBook. He or she will be expected to attend events and keep the Web site fresh "with video, blogs and polls that educate, entertain and engage his or her peers."
Among other requirements, applicants should be outgoing, possess strong creative skills and be comfortable on camera and with "all things Web." Applications are bring accepted though Feb. 27. They will include a one-minute video uploaded to YouTube and a blog post. An online vote will determine the winner.
