S.C. Federal launches online contest to reach Gen Y

Hoping to grow its business among 18- to 25-year-olds,South Carolina Federal Credit Union has launched an online contest to find a spokesperson for Generation Y.

The North Charleston-based credit union is encouraging people in the target age group to submit a 60-second video via YouTube, a blog post and other information. Online voting will determine the winner, who will receive a one-year position with a $29,000 salary and other perks.

"South Carolina Federal wants to be part of Gen Y’s financial future, so we’re looking for someone to help us connect with this group," said president and CEO Scott Woods.

The job description: be interesting, be tech-savvy and help the credit union engage, entertain and educate Generation Y, using weekly video and daily blog updates and other social media.

The campaign to reach young customers is called YoungFreeSC. On the campaign’s Web site,South Carolina Federal will post financial tips and money management strategies relevant to 18- to 25-year-olds.

Applications will be accepted through Feb. 27.

South Carolina Federal has 23 branches throughout Charleston, Columbia, Georgetown, Orangeburg, St. Matthews and Manning.
